The Marlins added four players to their roster on Tuesday afternoon, including highly-touted prospect Marcell Ozuna, prior to the midnight deadline to set a 40-man roster. The Marlins didn't fill every spot, though, as the final roster has just 37 players.
Ozuna, 22, is a power-hitting outfielder from the Dominican Republic that hit 24 home runs in 129 games last season for Class A Jupiter and is expected to open 2013 with Double-A Jacksonville. Before that, though, Ozuna will have the opportunity to impress at Spring Training.
Also given that opportunity were three other prospects: catcher Kyle Skipworth, outfielder Kyle Jensen and lefty reliever Edgar Olmos. Skipworth, 22, was the sixth overall selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, but he has struggled to progress to the next level.
At Double-A Jacksonville, the catcher batted just .217 but showed power, hitting 21 home runs and recording 63 runs batted in. Olmos also came from the 2008 Draft as a third-rounder and finished the season in Jacksonville with a 0.54 ERA in a little more than 16 innings pitched.
