Marlins, Triple-A Zephyrs to play exhibition on Mar. 30 in New Orleans

The barely-MLB Marlins will play a friendly against the New Orleans Zephyrs in the Crescent City on March 30.

Brad Barr-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Marlins will play an exhibition game against their Triple-A affiliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs, on March 30 at Zephyr Field in New Orleans, La.

The event will mark the first time that a major league team has visited New Orleans since 1999, when the Houston Astros traveled to the Bayou for an exhibition contest. The Marlins barely classify as a big-league club after depleting their roster during the offseason, trading away Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Heath Bell and others.

Still, they bring some players worth watching with them to NOLA, namely Giancarlo Stanton, who hit 37 home runs in 2012, placing him second in the National League. In addition, a host of players who called New Orleans home during their minor league days will be crafting their trade for the Marlins heading into 2013.

Tickets go on sale to the public on Jan. 3, with prices starting as low as $12.
