The St. Louis Cardinals broke in the new Miami Park by taking an early 2-0 lead over the Miami Marlins in the first inning, adding another run in the second inning to put their lead at 3-0. Marlins ace Josh Johnson had a tough night early as he gave up 10 hits through six innings of pitching.
The Marlins struggled to put their bat on the ball against Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse, who had a no-hitter going through the first six innings. Lohse finished up the night picking up the win, allowing just two hits over 7.1 innings. David Freese picked up two RBI for the Cardinals, picking right up where he left off in the World Series, going thee for five on the night.
Cardinals closer Jason Motte picked up the save, securing the Cardinals victory after striking out Hanley Ramirez and Giancarlo Stanton to end the game.
