Miami Marlins pitcher Juan Carlos Oviedo has been suspended eight weeks by Major League Baseball for engaging in age and identity fraud. The suspension puts him on the shelf until July 23.

Juan Carlos Oviedo had previously been known as Leo Nunez. He was caught playing under the fake name, and spent the offseason in Dominican Republic ironing out his immigration status. He said Friday that he received a visa from the United States and would return to Florida this week.

Oviedo, 30, is one year older than he had previously listed while playing under the name Nunez. He recorded 36 saves for the Marlins with a 4.06 ERA last season. He will be eligible to participate in extended spring training during his suspension, and will be allowed one 16-game rehabilitation assignment prior to his return to the major leagues.
