The Miami Marlins are trying to avoid a sweep by the St. Louis Cardinals, but are off to a slow start through the middle of the first inning. The Cardinals once again jumped out to an early lead on the Fish, picking up two runs in the top of the first inning. Carlos Beltran picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Just moments later David Freese doubled to left field to knock in Matt Holliday.
Annibel Sanchez gave up just three hits in the first inning, but on two of those hits he gave up two runs, putting the Marlins in an early hole. Sanchez has already picked up a walk, so will need to settle down or hope the Marlins bats can get things going against Joe Kelly.
