2012 MLB Mock Draft: Marlins And Rays Pick A Pair Of High School Outfielders

The 2012 MLB Draft starts on Monday night. Both the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays are picking the first round of the draft, albeit with a considerable distance between the two teams. The Marlins have the ninth pick, and the Rays pick in the 25th spot. A Monday mock draft from Baseball Prospectus has both teams selecting a high school outfielder.

The Marlins go with a product out of Texas.

9. Miami Marlins ($2.8M): Courtney Hawkins, OF, Carroll HS (TX)
The Marlins are looking at high school bats, and have a preference for Hawkins due to his power. Dahl could be in play here, and there's some thought they could go the safe route with a college arm, specifically Andrew Heaney.

The Rays find help in Mississippi in this mock draft.

25. Tampa Bay Rays ($1.725M): D.J. Davis, Stone HS (MS)
Since the Rays started drafting towards the end of the first round as opposed to the beginning, they've focused on tools, and Davis is the fastest player in the draft. Brinson could also be in play here, as well as some high school arms.

The dollar amounts in parentheses indicate the slot budget for that pick.
