Florida Marlins Place Nick Green On 15-Day Disabled List

Miami Marlins infielder has been placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday after suffering a sprained left thumb against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Green injured himself on Sunday while diving for a ball at third base. Green's thumb still had some considerable swelling after a few days of rest, and the move had to be made.

Green played in only seven games for the Marlns this year after being called from Triple-A New Orleans earlier this month. Green batted .174 with only one RBI in 23 at bats.

Utility infielder Gil Velazquez has been promoted fromNew Orleans to take Green's spot on the roster. Velazquez played in 101 games for the Zephyrs this year, batting .314 with three home runs and 37 RBI.

To make room for Velazquez on the 40-man roster, outfielder Logan Morrison was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. Morrison went on the disabled list on July 29 with inflammation in his right knee.
