The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader. Second baseman Aaron Hill starred offensively for Arizona, going 2-for-3 and notching all of the team's RBIs. Hill started off the scoring with a two-run homer in the first, and followed-up with an RBI single in the third. He knocked in Gerardo Parra in both instances.
Arizona starter Tyler Skaggs picked up his first win of the season. Skaggs scattered two runs and three hits over six-and-two-thirds innings of work. Marlins starter Jacob Turner, who came to Miami from Detroit in July, dropped to 1-2. Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz pitched a scoreless ninth to secure his 25th save of the year.
Marlins centerfielder Justin Ruggiano had a two-run homer in the second inning to tie the game at two. It was his 12th of the season. Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 9:40 PM.
