Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn wants better effort

Vaughn played only nine players on Tuesday night in an attempt to spread playing time around. He wasn't pleased by how his team performed.

Orlando Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn had some harsh words for his players following a 112-86 preseason loss to the Detroit Pistons Tuesday night. Vaughn rested many of his front-line players in hopes of giving his bench players a chance to shine before cuts are made. He was not pleased with their effort, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

"If there’s one thing I can pick out for the night it’s just we need to play harder on a consistent basis," Vaughn said. "It doesn’t matter who’s playing in the game of basketball. You can win games, you can stay in games, you can compete if you play hard. That's really a simple step to a lot of solutions."

Vaughn only played nine players Tuesday night. Aaron Afflalo, Ish Smith and Al Harrington sat out of the game due to injuries. Vaughn held six other players out for rest.

"Guys should take advantage of that," Vaughn said. "And tonight was a night that guys should’ve taken advantage of that opportunity."
