The Orlando Magic fired head coach Stan Van Gundy on Monday and will now begin their new coaching search. The team also parted ways with general manager Otis Smith, but the staff as a whole isn't being completely blown up... yet.
CEO Alex Martins announced on Monday afternoon that the team will allow Van Gundy's assistants to remain on staff if they're interested.
Per Martins, the team has given Van Gundy's assistant coaching staff--Ahmad Ajami,Bob Beyer, Steve Clifford, Patrick Ewing, and Brendan Malone--the option to remain on the staff for the final year of their contracts.
This is likely more a gesture than a permanent move, as when a new head coach is brought in they typically like to construct their own staff of coaches. If Martins is set on keeping Stan Van Gundy's assistants in tact however, this will make the coaching search difficult.
