Phil Jackson, Magic Rumors Not Dead, Could Be Hired In Front Office

Phil Jackson could still be hired by the Orlando Magic, according to an SI.com article by Sam Amick. In that article, Amick says that there is a revised version of a proposal that could have the 11-time championship coach take the job as a head personnel man in Orlando's front office. However, not everyone in the Magic organization believes this is a good idea.

Yet fascinating as the idea might be, Magic CEO Alex Martins appears to be against the idea of having an absentee leader -- no matter how many rings he has.

Given what the plan is, according to one source in the Magic organization, it could be understandable why Martins would be against the idea of bringing Jackson on board.

In the plan, Jackson -- according to one of the sources -- would work in Orlando one week out of every month and agree to make six community appearances every month as well.

It still remains to be seen what effect this will have on the Magic's coaching search, but the plan could also involve having Jackson as a minority owner. This proposal would also have current Indiana Pacers assistant and former Los Angeles Lakers assistant Brian Shaw as the head coach with Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen as the top assistant.
