2012 NBA Summer League: Pistons Hold Off Magic

The Detroit Pistons held off a late rally by the Orlando Magic, earning a 79-74 victory.

Second-year forward Austin Daye was fantastic for the Pistons, finishing with 24 points on eight-of-10 shooting. Daye also pulled down six rebounds. The Magic were a bit off on some of their rotations, forcing Andrew Nicholson to shout "Where's the help?" on several different occasions. More often than not, Daye was the one left open and he clearly made the Magic pay.

The Magic got off to a good start behind their front court. Kyle O'Quinn and Andre Drummond battled down low throughout much of the game and O'Quinn clearly got the better of Drummond, showcasing his patience and range on offense while using his strength to get the better of Drummond on the other end. O'Quinn finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Drummond had three points and three rebounds.

The star of day one, Nicholson, didn't look as comfortable on Tuesday. Head coach Mark Price liked what Nicholson did for the most part, but thought he rushed a couple of shots. He finished with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Pistons will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at 1:00 pm tomorrow and the Magic will do battle with the Utah Jazz at 5:00 pm.
