A slow day comes to an end here at the Ice Sports Forum. The lights are out in both rinks, a handful of players are stretching, a couple of guys are eating lunch but other than that the only activity is preparation for the trip to Dallas this afternoon. Coach Boucher isn’t even here so it looks like this will be the last update from camp.

The last day of workouts at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon before the Lightning hits the road is underway. The forwards are working through drills on the north rink while the defense is on the south rink. The only two goalies on the ice are Dustin Tokarski and Cedric Desjardins, both working with the forwards.

Lightning goalie Mike Smith suffered a fractured ring finger on his right (stick) hand during practice Monday morning. He will be out of action for a week, meaning he will miss at least the first four preseason games, and will be re-evaluated then.

Goaltender Mike Smith left the ice during power play drills this morning, favoring his right arm. After practice, head coach Guy Boucher confirmed that Smith had injured a finger on his right hand. To what extent is not known, pending xrays, but he may not play Tuesday night at Dallas.

Longtime Lightning TV play-by-play man has been at training camp every day and is encouraged by what’s happening so far.

“What you look for from players you’re familiar with is if they’re struggling in some way and so far, there are no signs of that. Also you look for surprises from the younger players and to how new guys are fitting in and so far everything looks great.”

“Some of the combinations are interesting. Kubina and Hedman, for instance. Also, the pairings of Gagne and Lecavalier and Stamkos and St. Louis. It’ll be interesting to see those combinations in game action.”

“It’s great to see so many fans. They’ve stuck through a lot recently and to turn out in the numbers they have for training camp is a great sign. I think this area is ready to explode.”

“(Richard) Panik has been very impressive. Also, I like what I’ve seen from Carter Ashton and Dominic Moore. You always like to see guys step up when they get an opportunity like this.”
