It took a furious 4th Quarter comeback, but the Tampa Bay Storm (2-3) came back from a 41-26 deficit to defeat the Philadelphia Storm (1-4) 51-48 Friday thanks to a Kyle Chilton 30 yard field goal as time expired.

The Storm had a career day from rookie quarterback Grant Gregory, who threw for 211 yards on 23-29 passing with 6 touchdowns and two interceptions. Hank Edwards has emerged as Gregory’s go to target throughout the contest, catching 10 balls for 74 yards and two scores. Huey Whittaker and Amarri Jackson each had a touchdown catch as well for the Storm.

Ryan Vena had a solid night under center for the Soul, throwing for 233 yards on 18-33 passing and 4 touchdowns while also rushing for 2 more. Donovan Morgan and Syvelle Morgan each had 7 catches and 2 touchdowns to lead the Soul.

After a Syvelle Newton touchdown tied the game with only 46 seconds left, the Storm made it to midfield thanks to a couple of Hank Edwards receptions, Gregory was sacked for an 8-yard loss by Brandon Perkins with only 8 seconds to go. On the next play, Mike Brown was whistled for a pass interference penalty, which gave Tampa Bay the ball on the Soul 23 yard line. Gregory was able to slip a quick 9-yard completion to Edwards with only 4 seconds to go for the Chilton gamewinner.

With the win, the Storm move up to 2-2 so far this season while Philadelphia drops to 1-3. The Storm are back home at the St. Pete Times Forum next Saturday as they welcome in the 3-2 Dallas Vigilantes. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 PM

Two Kyle Chilton missed extra points are the difference in the first half, as the Tampa Bay Storm trail the Philadelphia Storm 28-26 at halftime at the Wells Fargo Center. Rookie quarterback Grant Gregory had the best half of his career, going 12-16 for 90 yards and four touchdowns in the first half, with two going to Hank Edwards and one each to Amarri Jackson and Huey Whittaker.

The Soul have been led by QB Ryan Vena, who went 10-15 for 120 yards and a touchdown to go along with two rushing touchdowns. Vena kicked off the scoring in the first with a 7 yard touchdown, and his 37 yard touchdown pass to Donovan Morgan gave the Soul a 14-7 lead which the Soul have not given back yet.

Tampa Bay had a surprise on-side kick come back to hurt them as Tanner Varner picked up the loose ball and scored to give Philadelphia a 28-20 lead. An Amarri Jackson 9-yard TD catch had the Storm poised to go into the lockerroom only down one, but Chilton’s PAT was blocked and the Storm will have to battle back in the 2nd half to earn their 2nd win of the season.

The Tampa Bay Storm head up to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Soul at the Wells Fargo Center. Both teams are sitting near the bottom of the American Conference at 1-3 and are desperate for a win to stay within range of a possible playoff berth.

For the Storm, the game depends on the play of former USF quarterback Grant Gregory, who has been thrown to the wolves in his first year indoors. In the Storm's 52-30 loss against the Jacksonville Sharks, Gregory threw for a season high 285 yards and 4 touchdowns, with former USF teammate Amarri Jackson, Huey Whittaker, and Hank Edwards each grabbing touchdowns on the night. Tampa Bay needs to do a better job in the redzone, only going 4-6 with two missed field goals last week. With the Storm last in the AFL in scoring offense, Tampa Bay needs to take advantage of every opportunity to put points on the scoreboard.

The Soul have a bit of a quarterbacking situation between Ryan Vena and Justin Allgood. Allgood starting the first three games of the season before being benched in favor of Vena in their loss to the Orlando Predators last week. Whoever starts for Philadelphia has a nice group of WR to throw to, led by Donovan Morgan. Morgan has been a force on offense, catching 35 balls and 8 touchdowns, while sitting in 2nd place in the entire AFL with 140 yards receiving per game. The Soul have a solid second option at WR with Larry Brackins, who has 15 catches and 4 touchdowns this year.

Kick-off is slated for 8:00 PM tonight, and will be televised nationally on the NFL Network.
