The Tampa Bay Rays (45-35) got back to 10 games over .500 tonight, barely slipping past theĀ CincinnatiĀ Reds (41-40). The Rays' starter David Price was largely dominant through 7.2 innings, tying his career high with 12 strikeouts. Unfortunately, despite leaving with only 6 hits and 1 walk allowed, Price left the game in the top of the 8th inning with the Reds leading 2-1. Joel Peralta came to end the inning, but the Rays -- whose offense had looked helpless again -- appeared beat.

In the bottom of the 8th, however, the Rays finally got to the Reds starter Johnny Cueto, with back-to-back singles from John Jaso and Sam Fuld. Then Johnny Damon, who had already hit a solo homer in 4th inning, blooped a double to left field, giving the Rays another one-run lead. Then Kyle Farnsworth, who has been impeccable as the Rays closer this season, served Jay Bruce a 3-2 fastball that the Reds outfielder turned into a towering home run to deep center field, tying the game at 3-3.

The tie did not last long, however, as Evan Longoria, who has been hitting the ball well lately but was 0 for 3 on the night, smashed Logan Ondrusek's second pitch several rows deep into the left field bleachers, giving the Rays an exciting walk-off victory.

There will be a battle of Aces tonight in St. Petersburg as Johnny Cueto (5-2, 1.63 ERA, 3.41 FIP) and the Cincinnati Reds take on David Price (8-6, 3.51 ERA, 2.81 FIP) and the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at Tropicana Field. First pitch is slated for 7:10 PM and the game will be aired on SunSports and 620 WDAE.

The Rays look to bounce back against Cincinnati after losing the series opener against the Reds last night 5-0. Mike Leake scattered 4 hits over 6 innings of work, while Brandon Phillips went 4-5 with 2 RBI and former Ray Jonny Gomes blasted one off the C Ring for his 11th home run of the year.

For the Rays to rebound, they'll have to get past Cueto, who has been dominant this season for the Reds. Johnny has not given up more than 3 earned runs in any of his starts this year and only gave up 1 earned run in 7 innings of work in his last start against the Yankees.

Price was just as good for the Rays in his last start against Milwaukee, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs in 8 innings of work. David will need to have to be just as good if the Rays are to win tonight.
