One night after losing the season opener on Christmas night in Oklahoma City, the Orlando Magic beat the Houston Rockets 104-95 in their home opener. Orlando was led by Dwight Howard, who had only 11 points last night, but came back strong early on Monday. The All Star center finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, dominating Houston on the inside. After only eight attempts from the floor against the Thunder, the Magic made a concerted effort to feed Howard in the post early on.

J.J. Redick had a big night off the bench for Orlando, finishing with 20 points. After a cold shooting night in OKC, the Magic were improved from behind the arc, hitting nine of 22 attempts from downtown. One night after hitting six threes, Ryan Anderson was just two of eight but Redick was there to fill the void, hitting three of his four three-point attempts. Hedo Turkoglu hit three from downtown as well, leading all Magic scorers with 23 points on a hot shooting and efficient night from the floor.

Scoring machine Kevin Martin had a brutal night for Houston, and the Magic were able to hold the Rockets to just 23% from three. Orlando would capitalize at home to seal the nine point win. They will now have two days off before hosting the New Jersey Nets on Thursday night.

The Orlando Magic took a three point halftime lead over the Houston Rockets in their home opener on Monday night. The Magic were led by a dominating performance from Dwight Howard. The All Star center, just one night after a quiet game against Oklahoma City, finished the first 24 minutes with 16 points and four rebounds. For the second straight night, Howard has also managed to stay out of foul trouble - committing only two so far.

J.J. Redick, coming off the bench, was the only other Magic player in double figures. Redick added another five points in the second quarter after a five point first. After his 25 point performance against the Thunder, starting power forward Ryan Anderson added eight points in the first half against a Rocket front line that has been overmatched. Anderson drilled two more treys in the first half - he's the one Orlando player to have had any success behind the arc in these first six quarters of the season.

Energy forward Luis Scola had an active first half but the Magic have held scoring dynamo Kevin Martin to just two points.

After the first quarter of their home opener, the Orlando Magic lead the Houston Rockets 27-23 in a fast paced up-and-down first 12 minutes. Dwight Howard, coming off another quiet Christmas Day performance against the Thunder, dominated Houston on the interior and finished with 10 points. Orlando made a concerted effort to feed Howard in the post, and the All Star center finished five of six from the floor.

J.J. Redick came off the bench and gave Orlando a boost, hitting a quick three and chipping in five points. Redick was only one of two players to hit from downtown, as the Magic, after a cold shooting night last night, were just two of eight from behind the arc. They will look to build on their lead in the second quarter.
