The Tampa Bay Lightning avenged a 5-2 loss earlier this month to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, knocking off Philly 5-1 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Bolts, keyed by Steven Stamkos, rode a huge three goal second period to improve to 15-17 as they try to climb back into contention in the Southeast Division.

Goalie Mathieu Garon came up huge for the Bolts, as the Flyers peppered the Tampa Bay netminder with 17 shots in the first period. The Tampa defense would clamp down to allow only three shots on goal in the second, but the Bolts were still doubled up 32-16 in the shots-on-goal department.

Garon would come up big again in the final period, with another shutout period. Vincent Lecavalier added the Bolts fifth goal of the season to officially ice the game. It's a huge home win, snapping a two game losing streak over one of the best teams in the league. Tampa will look to build on the momentum Thursday night when they host the Montreal Canadiens.

After being outshot 17 to 4 in the first twenty minutes, the Tampa Bay Lightning turned the tables in the second period to take a 4-1 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Flyers, one of the league's most dynamic and high-powered teams, peppered goalie Mathieu Garon in the first period. But the Bolts would clamp down, and held Philly to just three shots on goal in the second period.

On the offensive end, Steven Stamkos simply took over and dominated to give Tampa Bay a multi-goal lead. Stamkos notched his 21st and 22nd goals of the year. The first came just over seven minutes into the period as he beat Ilya Bryzgalov to give Tampa the 2-1 lead. After a fight and penalty filled second period, his second would come on the power play to give Tampa a 4-1 lead. Steve Downie added the intervening goal for the Bolts, who were outplayed in the first but responded with a vengeance in the second.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers are tied 1-1 after the first period of their Tuesday night matchup at St. Pete Times Forum. Tampa Bay is looking to avenge a 5-2 loss earlier this month in Philly, and set the tone early with an opening goal by Bruno Gervais. Adam Hall fed Gervais about ten minutes into the first quarter as he beat Ilya Bryzgalov for the 1-0 lead.

The Flyers peppered Lightning goalie Mathieu Garon for much of the first twenty minutes, outshooting the Bolts 17 to four. Philly finally broke through with a little less than two minutes remaining as Scott Hartnell blasted one past Garon to even it up. Hartnell was assisted by the dynamic Claude Giroux, who's coming back from a concussion injury this month.

The Bolts will have to get more shots on net in the second period if they are to stay in this one with the high-powered Flyers.

After a 5-2 loss against Philadelphia on Dec. 10, the Lightning are looking to turn the tables.

A little over two weeks ago, the Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a beating on the road, falling 5-2 against the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 10. Tuesday night, the Bolts will be looking to avoid a similar fate when the Flyers enter the St. Pete Times Forum 7:30 p.m. rematch.

The last time these two teams met, Philadelphia made good use of the power play, scoring twice in five opportunities with the man advantage. For that reason, expect Tampa to put some extra focus on stopping their opponents' special teams.

The Lightning will also try to generate more shots than in the last matchup, when the Flyers earned a 32-19 edge in shots on goal.

At 21-9-4 and second place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, Philadelphia won't be a tough nut to crack. If the Bolts can contain on the penalty kill and create some more offense, though, they should have a better shot than the last time out.

Notes: Danny Briere and Brayden Schenn are returning to Philadelphia's lineup for this game.
