The Tampa Bay Lightning cruised into the All-Star Break on a positive note last night, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 4-2. Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, Nate Thompson, and Mike Angelidis all had goals for the Bolts.

Just one week ago, a four-game win streak seemed out of the question. The Lightning lost seven games in a row prior to this mini win streak, and they even slipped into last place in the Eastern Conference for a short period of time. But with this surge, the Lightning now have 46 points through 48 games -- putting them in 11th place in the Conference.

Two of the Bolts' four goals last night had an extra significance. The first goal of the game was scored by forward Mike Angelidis, who had just been called up from the Norfolk Admirals (AHL) and was playing in his first NHL game. And Vincent Lecavalier's second-period goal came on the power play, giving the Lightning their first PPG in a long, long time.

The Lightning now have a week off for the All-Star Break. Steven Stamkos will represent the Bolts during the All-Star Game.

The Lightning had a better effort in the second period, generating much more quality shots on Sanford and scoring twice.

The first goal came on the power play. Yes that’s right. Tampa Bay finally scored on the man-advantage when Vincent Lecavalier tipped in a shot from Bruno Gervais at 8:19. Lecavalier extended his scoring streak to six games with the goal.

Tampa Bay played well defensively in the period, holding Columbus to only six shots on goal. The Lightning primarily played in the offensive zone, dominating puck possession for most of the period and not allowing the Blue Jackets the chance to test Garon.

At 16:56, Tampa Bay extended its lead to two when St. Louis intercepted an impressive pass from Lecavalier.

Angelidis' goal came after he forced a turnover and crashed the net, putting the puck passed Blue Jackets net minder, Curtis Sanford.

It wasn't too long before Columbus tied up the game when Brett Lebda had a great top shelf shot that went passed Mathieu Garon's left shoulder at 15:07.

The Lightning played rather sloppy in the first period although it outshot the Blue Jackets 12-5. Most of the shots generated weren't of high quality and were easily saved by Sanford. Tampa Bay did show some promise on its only power play in the period, but failed to capitalize on the man advantage.
