The future NCAA playoff system could add a seventh bowl game to its semifinal rotation. Nothing definite has been decided, according to Sports Illustrated, but the option for a seventh bowl appears on the table. University presidents approved a playoff plan in June that would rotate the semifinals among six bowl games.

Under the agreed-upon format, two of the six bowl games would be the semifinals each year. The other four, meanwhile, would host high-profile games of their own. For non-semifinal years, three bowl games have decided to host match-ups based on conference tie-ins. The Rose Bowl would keep its matchup between the Big Ten and Pac 12. The Champions Bowl would pit a Big 12 team against an SEC team. And the Orange Bowl would pit an ACC team against either Notre Dame, and SEC team, or a Big 10 team. The other three bowls, which haven't been determined, have chosen to allow open access. They will be able to choose teams from any conference in the country.

According to Team Speed Kills, a seventh bowl would also have open access. Such an arrangement might give more access to smaller-conference teams to play in high-profile games.

The BCS commissioners were in meetings on Wednesday discussing the possibility of a four-team playoff to determine which two teams will play in the BCS National Title Game. The commissioners ultimately approved the idea and would like to have the teams decided by a committee, according to a report by Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports.

BCS commissioners will recommend a seeded-four team playoff that will feature the "best four teams" as chosen by a selection committee, sources told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

The Presidential Oversight Committee ultimately must approve the playoff on Tuesday in Washington D.C.. The playoff will begin after the 2014 regular season.

The plan still has to has to be approved, but if and/or when it is the changes will not go into effect until the 2014 season.

If you listen to Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott, the possibly of a "plus-one" championship game has resurfaced. Under the proposed "plus-one" model, the BCS would recalculate the standings following the completion of all the bowl games and then stage a title game between the teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2.

Last Friday's announcement of a bowl game between the Big XII and SEC champions is a "game-changer," according to the commissioner.

"I'd say before Friday that idea of a plus-one didn't have much traction, but I think the announcement on Friday's a game-changer," Scott told the Wall Street Journal. "We're pretty far down the path on four-team playoff options, but given the very positive reaction to what the SEC and Big 12 have done, it's possible that (a plus-one) could get some traction."

Previously, the four-team postseason proposal had been gaining the most traction after the 11 conference commissioners in the Football Bowl Subdivision, along with Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, agreed to explore the possibility of a four-team playoff last month.

Major-college football has never held any sort of playoff.

The college football postseason landscape is on the verge of a major change, as reports are indicating a four team playoff may soon be introduced. In light of this news, the SEC and Big 12 have agreed to pit the champions of each league against each other, according to a report by Tony Barnhart of CBS. The ever-evolving postseason scenario could alter conference bowl hierarchies, as well. Via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com's Gator Nation:

The SEC and Big 12 champions will face off in a bowl game if both teams fail to make the NCAA National Semi-Finals, according to report.

In an odd move, the SEC and the Big 12 conferences have agreed to pit the champions of each league against each other in a bowl game, according to a report by Tony Barnhart of CBS Sports. The arrangement is similar to the deal the Pac-12 and the Big 10 made regarding the Rose Bowl.

The landscape of major bowl games will change with a National Semi-Final nearly done and finished, as the bowl games will be left trying to fill their games with teams who don't make it in the tournament, so deals are quickly being made to fill them. Which bowl this game will fill however is currently unknown.

The SEC will announce at Noon ET an agreement with the Big 12 for their champions to meet in a to-be-determined bowl game if they are not a part of the anticipated four-team playoff beginning in 2014.

An industry source said the alliance between the two conferences will be similar to that of the Big Ten and Pac-12, whose champions meet annually in the Rose Bowl if they are not a part of the BCS championship game.

While this could be a great football game, the only issue here is the last time one of either the SEC Champion or Big 12 Champion did not make the National Championship game was before the BCS era. The chances of the game actually ever being played is very slim.
