The Rays came away with a 9-4 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday, which evened the four-game series at two wins apiece. Tampa seemed to be running away with this game early as they scored nine runs unanswered before the Blue Jays made any kind of rally.

Toronto didn't score until the seventh inning. Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind plated a pair of runs in the seventh, while Encarnacion came back in the ninth with a two-run shot for a late Blue Jays rally.

That wasn't quite enough to negate the cushion the Rays had built through their six-run second inning and extending it to a 9-0 advantage.

The Rays' bats woke up early Sunday afternoon in Toronto, blasting Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero for seven runs, six of which came with no out in the top of the second. Romero was lifted before he got an out in the second.

Evan Longoria doubled in a run in the first inning to make the score 1-0, but the bulk of the Rays' damage came in the next inning. Ben Francisco led off the inning with a home run to left field. Romero then walked Carlos Pena and gave up a double to Ryan Roberts. Jose Molina and Desmond Jennings then followed with consecutive RBI singles. With two on and no out, B.J. Upton hit a high fly ball to shallow right field that Moises Sierra lost in the sun.

With the bases loaded and still no out, Ben Zobrist singled sharply to center to score two more runs and make the score 6-0.

Romero then was pulled. Reliever Chad Jenkins got Longoria to fly out and Jeff Keppinger to ground out, but Upton scored on Keppinger's grounder. Ben Francisco struck out looking to end the inning.

Through two innings of work, Rays starter David Price has yet to give up a hit. He walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the second but got Adeiny Hechavarria to ground out to short to end the inning.

David Price allowed six runs on ten hits in his last outing against Texas en route to his worst outing of the season and his first loss in two months. At the time, the Rays held the AL Wild Card lead. Now, Tampa sits 1 1/2 games back of the second Wild Card spot, and the Rays need a gem from Price in order to earn a split with Toronto at the Rogers Centre.

The Rays have lost six of eight overall, but Price (16-5, 2.53 ERA) has been Tampa's most consistent starter and rarely puts up two bad outings in a row.

Meanwhile, Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero (8-12, 5.50 ERA) is on a franchise single-season record 11-game losing streak after an 8-1 start to the year. He allowed just two runs over seven innings in his most recent start but still took a loss.

The Rays play the third of their four-game road series against the Blue Jays on Saturday, trying to avoid losing their third straight game. So far, Toronto is sweeping this series since winning 2-0 on Thursday and 2-1 on Friday.

Tampa is hoping for a different result in this one. Jeff Niemann takes the mound for the Rays for the first time in more than three months, when they played the Blue Jays.

The Rays are in a real slump as they've dropped six of their last seven games after getting off to a 9-2 start in August. Take a look at the game schedule and broadcast information here:

The Tampa Bay Rays lost a close game to the Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1, despite outhitting Toronto 10 to four. The Rays were 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Jeremy Hellickson, starting for Tampa Bay, picked up his 10th loss. He pitched six innings, giving up four hits and two runs on two solo home runs. Desmond Jennings had the team's only run, a solo home run over the center field wall in the third inning.

The Rays best chance to tie things up was also their last, as they had a man thrown out at the plate in the top of the ninth. Jeff Keppinger led off the inning with a single, and Elliot Johnson was put in to run for Keppinger. After advancing to second on a fly ball by Luke Scott, Johnson was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a shallow single by pinch hitter Carlos Pena.

Toronto now leads 2-0 in the four game series. Game three is scheduled for Saturday at 1:07 p.m. ET.

As the Tampa Bay Rays continue their four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, the Rays sit just outside of a playoff spot as they enter the last month of the regular season.

Tampa Bay sits just 1.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the second wild card spot and 2.5 games behind the Oakland Athletics for the other wild card position.

The Blue Jays have been on a bit of a slide recently, losing seven of their last ten games overall, but the Blue Jays did take the first game of their series against the Rays on Thursday. Still, the Rays have to take advantage of the opportunity given to them as their opponents take on difficult matchups.

The A's take on the Boston Red Sox this weekend in a three game series, but they face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim seven times over the next two weeks. Baltimore have a big taking on the AL East leading New York Yankees and face New York four more times next week.

If the Rays can win take two out of three from the Blue Jays the rest of the weekend, Tampa Bay should be in good shape heading into the final weeks of the regular season.

Four Toronto Blue Jays pitchers combined to blank the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night, winning 2-0 in the first game of an integral four-game set for the Rays.

Rays starter Matt Moore was the hard-luck loser, going six strong innings against the Blue Jays with seven strikeouts against three walks and six hits. Blue Jays catcher Kelly Johnson's double in the first inning drove in the game's only two runs.

The Rays bullpen combined for three innings of shutout baseball, giving up just one hit over their three innings of work.

The Rays were only able to muster five hits against the Blue Jays, who were anchored by starter Carlos Villanueva, who went six strong. The Blue Jays bullpen held the Rays scoreless in the final three innings to secure the victory.
