In the final series of the season between the two NL East teams, the Marlins went down with little more than a whimper, capped by a 6-2 loss to the Braves on Thursday night. Despite beginning the game with a 2-0 lead, the Marlins gave up four runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the seventh.

Carlos Lee started the scoring for the Marlins with a double in the third inning that brought in Bryan Petersen. One inning later, a Gil Velasquez double drove in Scott Cousins to extend the lead to 2-0.

However, the flood gates opened in the bottom of the fourth, including a fielding error by Petersen that allowed two runs to score. Despite a relatively strong performance by Jacob Turner that included two earned runs through six innings with five strikeouts, the pitcher earned the loss for the Marlins to drop his record to 2-5.

The win for the Braves helped them to stay in the chase for the NL East title, as they are now 3.5 games behind the Nationals following the victory.

The Marlins will next face the Phillies in a three game series at home, beginning with a game starting at 7:10 p.m. ET on Friday night.

After falling to the Atlanta Braves in the fist two games of their series, the Miami Marlins will try to stave off a three-game sweep with Ozzie Guillen making two changes to their lineup from Wednesday.

The big change is at catcher, where Rob Brantly moves back into the starting lineup after getting the night off yesterday. The only other change for the Marlins today is Scott Cousins starting in right field, replacing Greg Dobbs.

Sitting in fifth place in the NL East with a record of 66-89, there isn't much for the Miami Marlins to play for Thursday night against the Atlanta Braves.

The Marlins are riding a six-game losing streak and have lost eight of their last nine outings. The Braves, meanwhile, are looking to win their fifth-consecutive game and pick up their 13th win over the Marlins this season, as the two teams' meet for the final time in 2012.

Atlanta appears to be locked into the top Wild Card spot with seven games remaining. The Braves are 6½ games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card race and four games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East.

Here's all the info for Thursday's game:

The Miami Marlins lost Game 2 of their series against the Atlanta Braves Wednesday night, 3-0. Miami has lost three in a row against Atlanta and six straight overall and four of the last five games the teams have faced off.

Miami starter Josh Johnson went six innings, giving up three runs on four hits. As has been the case often this season, the Marlins' offense was unable to bail him out. The Atlanta staff combined to hold Miami to six hits and no runs. The Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

A home run by Martin Prado put the Braves up 1-0 in the first, and they never looked back. Prado added another with an RBI single in the third, and one more run came in the sixth. A pitch from Johnson was high and outside and it ricocheted off catcher John Buck's glove, allowing Dan Uggla to take home without even a slide.

With the loss Miami falls to 66-89. They will try to avoid a sweep on Thursday, with Game 3 of the series scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.

The Atlanta Braves host the Miami Marlins Wednesday night in hopes of gaining further ground in the National League East. The Braves currently trail the Washington Nationals by four games with eight games to play. Miami will counter with Josh Johnson, who comes in at 8-13 with a 3.84 ERA.

There isn't much to play for with either the Miami Marlins or Atlanta Braves in Wednesday's game, with the Braves clinching a birth in the National League playoffs Tuesday and the Marlins long out of contention. Still, the teams face off just a day after Freddie Freeman hit a two-run, walk-off homer for the Braves to begin the celebration.

Josh Johnson (8-13, 3.84 ERA) will start at pitcher for Miami and Paul Maholm (12-10, 3.85 ERA) will take the hill for the Braves. Johnson lost the decision in his last two starts, giving up three runs in both, respectively.

Starting pitching isn't so much the issue for the Marlins as is relief pitching. It was the bullpen that let the team down yet again Tuesday. As Fish Stripes put it following the game, Miami entrusted the beginning of the ninth inning to Mike Dunn, since closer Steve Cishek had been struggling this month and there was a lefty on the way.

The Marlins are looking for better luck on Wednesday.

Wednesday night's first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Florida. For a complete list of Marlins radio affiliates, click here.

The Miami Marlins lost a heart-breaking game on Tuesday night, as they blew a 3-2 lead to the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the ninth when Freddie Freeman hit a two-run walk-off HR off of Mike Dunn.

The Braves, after their dramatic late-season collapse in 2011, seem to have turned it around in 2012. The win moved them to 89-65, six games up in the NL Wild Card race with two weeks left in the regular season.

For the Marlins, it was yet another indignity in a season full of them, as a team that opened a new stadium with high expectations continued to slink towards the end of the year with a 66-88 record.

2B Donovan Solano provided all of the offense for Miami on Wednesday, with a solo HR in the first and a two-run HR in the seventh that gave them a 3-2 lead.

Nate Eovaldi went 6 solid innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs, but the Marlins bullpen once again came up short.

The Miami Marlins are without their best hitter again on Tuesday night, as Giancarlo Stanton is not in the starting lineup.

Stanton has not appeared in a game since Sept. 16, and is unlikely to appear in Miami's series against the Atlanta Braves. The slugger is dealing with an oblique injury, and hopes to return this weekend.

Both Ozzie Guillen and former Marlins skipper Fredi Gonzalez have announced the starting lineups for Tuesday's game, and they are as follows:
