UCF blew a 24-10 lead in the fourth quarter, but a touchdown run by Latavius Murray helped the Knights escape UTEP with a narrow win.

Blake Bortles threw for a touchdown and ran for two more scores, and the Knights overcame a late UTEP rally to beat the Miners, 31-24, on Saturday night in El Paso.

With a 24-10 lead in the fourth quarter, things looked good for UCF (8-2, 6-0 in Conference USA). But back-to-back scoring drives by UTEP (2-8, 1-5), including a 69-yard touchdown run by Nathan Jeffery, tied the game at 24 with just under eight minutes left. UCF answered back with a touchdown of its own on a three-play, 75-yard drive. The big blow came from Latavius Murray, who broke off a 49-yard run to pay dirt.

UTEP tried to answer, but got stuck at midfield. With four minutes left in the game, the Miners decided to go for it on 4th-and-4, but quarterback Blaire Sullivan was stuffed on the carry, and the Knights ran out the clock after the turnover-on-downs.

Bortles finished with 214 yards on 16-of-28 passing, adding 40 yards on 11 carries. Murray ran for 116 yards on 23 carries. For UTEP, Sullivan was just 5-of-11 for 79 yards and an interception, but did run for 72 yards. The Miners wasted a big effort from Jeffery, who gashed UCF for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

Still undefeated in conference play, UCF will travel to Tulsa to face the leaders of the West Division. Kickoff will be at noon on Nov. 17.

Not a lot has gone right for the Owls this season but on Saturday against Western Kentucky, they showed up determined to steal one.

The Florida Atlantic Owls got their best win of the season with a 37-28 upset over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon.

The Owls forced four WKU turnovers Saturday which was the huge difference-maker with the game sitting at 14-14 after one half.

Kawaun Jakes second interception late in the third gave the Owls a short field for a 20-yard Daniel McKinney receiving touchdown to break the tie.

WKU had a chance to tie it up early in the fourth but Garrett Schwettman missed an easy chip shot field goal from 32-yards out. The Owls then proceeded to go on a clutch 80-yard drive to extend their lead back up to 10 with three minutes left after a four-yard touchdown from RB Damian Fortner.

After a fluky fumble recovery touchdown from the Hilltoppers with two minutes left, FAU's Keith Reaser jumped in front of an attempted hook and lateral and brought it to the house to give the Owls the upset.

Box Score Hero: Owls WR William Dukes (nine receptions, 104 yards) was consistently moving the chains while Graham Wilbert did a solid job protecting the ball (23-of-36, 257 yards, two touchdowns).

But Did They Cover? The Hilltoppers were 16-point favorites so it probably goes without saying that they didn't come close to doing their job.

Next Week's Schedule: The Owls will be looking to carry over their strong play from this week into their Friday matchup against the Florida International Panthers. As for the Hilltoppers, they'll be playing their final road game of the year against LA-Lafayette.

Virginia quarterback Michael Rocco completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jake McGee lifted the Cavaliers to a 41-40 victory over the Miami Hurricanes.

Michael Rocco's 10-yard touchdown pass to Jake McGee with six seconds remaining in the game lifted the Virginia Cavaliers (4-6, 2-4) to a 41-40 win over the Miami Hurricanes (5-5, 4-3) on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia trailed by 10 points with just six minutes remaining in the game, but cut into the deficit with 5:33 left to play, when Rocco connected on a 5-yard touchdown pass to Darius Jennings, cutting Miami's lead to 38-35.

After Virginia regained possession of the ball, Rocco was called for intentional grounding in his own end zone, resulting in a sack and safety, giving Miami a 40-35 lead -- and the ball.

Virginia's defense forced Miami to go three-and-out immediately, giving the Cavaliers one last chance to take the lead. With just 2:38 remaining, the Cavaliers started on a 16 play, 87-yard drive that culminated with Rocco's fourth touchdown pass of the day, giving Virginia a 41-40 lead.

Rocco finished the day 29-of-37 passing for 300 yards and four touchdowns.

Miami fell just short despite Duke Johnson's highly productive game. Johnson finished the game with 16 carries for 150 yards. Johnson also completed an 8-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Virginia and Miami both committed six penalties in the game, and Virginia held a narrow edge in total yards, outgaining Miami 482-420.

Box Score Hero: Rocco played the hero, completing his fourth touchdown pass with just six seconds to play, en route to 300 yards passing for the day.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team will factor into next week's rankings.

Keith Dawson and J.J. Laster both went over 100 yards rushing on the day, with Dawson scoring twice and Laster reaching the end zone once.
