The linebacker will need further tests on his arm.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Quincy Black does not have spinal cord damage but may have nerve damage in his left arm after his helmet-to-helmet hit Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, according to The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.

Black was able to walk out of the hospital after an evaluation Sunday night, Stroud reports. Bucs coach Greg Schiano said Black has full function but will need further tests for his left arm. Doctors believe he could have nerve damage, but they need to wait for "swelling to go down before ordering further tests."

Black injured himself tackling Chargers running back Ryan Mathews in the third quarter. Black's neck was stabilized before he was carted off the field.

Black's agent, Marc Lillibridge, said the 28-year-old is using his left arm.

"They expect it to all come back and time should help it heal, but they got some tests they want to finish," Lillibridge told the Tampa Bay Times. "They don't know exactly what it is yet, because there's trauma to the area."

Black's timetable to return is unknown.

Bucs coach Greg Schiano hopes injury doesn't threaten Black's career.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Quincy Black "will be okay" but is having complications in his left arm after being carted off the field Sunday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano said it's a serious injury, but other than his left arm, Black has full function.

Black, 28, made a helmet-to-helmet tackle on San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Matthews in Sundays' 34-24 win for the Bucs. Black fell to the ground after the hit. His neck was stabilized and he was carried off on a stretcher.

Schiano said he hope Black's injury isn't career-threatening, but "it's too early to speculate," according to the Times.

Black is a former third-round draft pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He's been with the Buccaneers for his entire six-year career, and has been a regular starter for the last four seasons.

Before his injury, Black compiled 25 tackles and two fumble recoveries in nine games. He has 203 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in his career.
