USF Spring Practice Resumes: Pro Day, Scrimmages, Spring Game Coming Up

Now that the South Florida Bulls are back from spring break, spring practice is underway again. The first post-break workout was yesterday, with another practice planned for tomorrow.

Practice was mostly uneventful on Monday — as you might expect after a layoff, there was some rust to knock off, but coach Skip Holtz saw that coming:

“Monday practice after a week off for spring break, rusty, as you would expect,” Holtz said. “It wasn’t crisp, it wasn’t sharp. It’s a little bit sloppy; dropping passes, fumbling snaps, things along those lines that make it really ugly.”

Holtz also said that backup wide receiver T.J. Knowles, who saw very little action in 2010 after joining USF from Saddleback College in California, would probably transfer. His departure likely won’t have much of an impact, but it was bitterly disappointing to at least one of the writers of Voodoo Five, SB Nation’s USF blog.

Another practice comes up on Wednesday, followed by USF’s Pro Day on Thursday, where Terrell McClain and other graduating seniors will show their stuff to NFL scouts. On Saturday, USF will hold its first scrimmage on campus. It’s not open to the public, but roster hawks can take heart, because a depth chart should follow shortly thereafter.

The spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at 2:00pm at Raymond James Stadium. Spring practice will conclude with the Green and Gold Bowl on April 9 at 5:00pm at the USF Track & Field Stadium, part of a “USF Day” with several athletic events happening on campus.
