As the season comes to a close, the new Wild Card spot in each league has opened up a bevy of possibilities, all of which will be in play in the two Friday night showdowns. Plus, the Ryder Cup gets underway from Illinois.
Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies, 7:10 p.m., FOX Sports Florida
With the Phillies slipping out of the National League's Wild Card race, Philadelphia sends Cliff Lee to the mound to take on the Marlins. Mark Buehrle will get the start for the Marlins (66-90), which look to end the 2012 season on a high note.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox, 8:10 p.m., SunSports
Four games out of the American League East lead and just two games out of the second Wild Card spot, the Rays head to Chicago to take on the White Sox, sending Jeremy Hellickson to the mound. The White Sox are in the midst of their own tough divisional battle, as they sit two games back of the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers.
Ryder Cup, 7 a.m., ESPN
The United States squad looks to redeem itself from a tough 2010 Ryder Cup loss to the Europeans beginning Friday as foursomes get underway early Friday morning from Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. Tiger Woods, FedEx Cup winner Brandt Snedeker and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy are in action.
