Gerald McCoy And LeGarrette Blount Could Miss Important Week 6 Matchup With New Orleans Saints

As if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 48-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers wasn’t enough, the Week 5 loss also came with a hefty price in the injury department. Two of the Buccaneers’ most important players were injured in the humiliating loss — defensive Gerald McCoy on defense, and running back LeGarrette Blount on offense. McCoy suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday and is considered ‘week to week’ by head coach Raheem Morris. Blount meanwhile injured his knee in the loss and will likely be considered doubtful for Tampa Bay’s Sunday showdown with the New Orleans Saints.

“Right now I’m not real motivated to say (McCoy’s) going to definitely play this week,” Morris said. "But I’m not ready to count him out either.

“I don’t want to rule (Blount) out, but I’m not looking at him. It is what it is. Next man up. I’d like to get more detailed information on him. I’ll call him day-to-day for now.”

McCoy’s injury occurred in the first quarter when he tried to tackle Frank Gore of the 49ers. He did not return to the game. Blount went down in the third quarter after a 29-yard reception. With the Buccaneers trailing 31-3 at the time, one might question why Blount was even playing. Then again, after playing so poorly prior to the injury, one could understand why Raheem Morris would want his players to at least execute their offense so that they didn’t completely lose their confidence in defeat.

Stay tuned here and at Bucs Nation for more news about the status of Blount and McCoy for Week 6 throughout the week.
