SB Nation just came out with the latest edition of their 2011 NFL Mock Draft, and they have the Buccaneers taking Purdue defensive end Ryan Kerrigan in the first round at No. 20 overall. Here is their rationale.
The Aqib Talib situation has suddenly made cornerback a priority for the Buccaneers, but their biggest need - and thus the smart money in Round 1 - is still at defensive end. Kerrigan is the type of hustle end that will thrive in the Tampa 2.
We've extolled Kerrigan's virtues time and time again. But let's re-hash what makes him a good fit for the Bucs defense. He might not be the most atheltic guy out there, but he works hard and plays within his means. He is strong against the run and does a good job of getting after the quarterback when the opportunity presents itself.
The Bucs need a lot of sacks, and Kerrigan might not be able to offer that. But he is a much more well-rounded prospect than someone who just specializes in rushing the quarterback.
