Tampa Bay Buccaneers To Announce Ring Of Honor Inductee On Wednesday

While Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans patiently await for the four-plus month NFL Lokcout to be lifted, they will at least be treated to some pomp and circumstance on Wednesday when the organization is scheduled to announce the most recent inductee into the team's Ring Of Honor. The announcement will be made at 11:00 a.m. at a press conference at One Buccaneer Place. Started two years ago at Raymond James Stadium, the Ring of Honor currently includes just two former Buccaneers -- Lee Roy Selmon, the team's all-time leading sacker and first overall pick in 1976, the team's first year of existence, and John McKay, the first head coach in franchise history.

So, who do you think will be the third inductee? If it's another old-timer, possibilities include running back Rickey Bell, quarterback Doug Williams or tight end Jimmie Giles. Players from the 1990s that merit consideration and will someday be honored are linebacker Hardy Nickerson and tackle Paul Gruber. Then there's always Derrick Brooks, one of the most respected and productive players in team history. Something tells me Brooks will get the nod before former teammate Warren Sapp gets the nod, if for no other reason than that Brooks played his entire 14-year career with the Bucs whereas Sapp played his first nine seasons in Tampa before finishing off his career with a four-year stint in Oakland.

Stay tuned tomorrow to find out who will be the third and most recent induction to the team's Ring of Honor!
