Buccaneers Coaching Search: Tampa Bay Has Reached Out To Joe Philbin

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have continued their search for an experienced NFL coach, but their latest candidate is different in that he does not have any prior NFL head coaching experience. They have reached out to Joe Philbin, the Packers offensive coordinator. Bucs Nation has more on the hire.

Philbin has spent his entire NFL coaching career with the Green Bay Packers, going from assistant offensive line coach to offensive coordinator in five years. He's been the Packers' offensive coordinator since 2007, presiding over Brett Favre's last year as a Packer and the rapid and spectacular development of Aaron Rodgers as the best quarterback in the NFL since then. However, head coach Mike McCarthy is still the one who calls the plays and has a big hand in that explosive offense.

This has been a very difficult week for Philbin, who lost his son early in the week and then lost to the Giants on Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes him a while to get into a position where he can make such an important career decision.
