Chargers vs. Buccaneers 2012 score update: Tampa blocks punt, but San Diego leads 21-17 at half

The second quarter looked like it was going to be all Buccaneers - but Philip Rivers rose to the occasion and gave the Chargers a 21-17 halftime lead with his third touchdown pass of the day.

Tampa kicker Connor Barth started the scoring in the second quarter with a 40-yard field goal, and the Bucs made another huge play on special teams just moments later to give themselves a lead.

Dekoda Watson charged up the middle and blocked a Mike Scifres punt, where Adam Hawyard scooped and scored to give the Buccaneers a 17-14 lead.

Scifres, one of the best punters in the NFL, remained on the ground for several minutes after the brutal block, and was seen limping and receiving extended attention from the Chargers' training staff.

After the blocked punt, Rivers continued his near-perfect play, leading San Diego on their third 80-yard touchdown drive of the day, hooking up with Malcom Floyd for a three-yard touchdown that swung momentum back in their direction before the half.
