Though Alabama Crimson Tide offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland probably has perfectly good reasons to want to stay at his current job, this is starting to get a bit ridiculous. AL.com is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offered Stoutland an opportunity to interview with the same position under Greg Schiano at Tampa Bay, but that he declined the offer to interview.
Stoutland is an experienced coach who has spent one year at Alabama under Nick Saban. He's being credited with much of that team's success along the offensive line, and according to the AL.com report, he's currently making $395,000 per year. Stoutland probably likes that paycheck and his current job, and his decision to decline to interview could have had nothing to do with the Buccaneers. Regardless, the pattern of uninterested assistant coaches or assistants that have been blocked from interviewing is equally concerning and comical at this point.
