The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Monday that the team agreed to terms with Doug Martin, the 31st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Martin signed a five-year deal, the terms of which were not disclosed at this time.
A running back from Boise State, Martin is the sixth draft pick signed by the Buccaneers out of seven total picks. The only unsigned draft pick in Tampa Bay now is safety Mark Barron, the seventh overall pick in the draft this year. Because Martin was a first-round pick, the team can give him a five-year deal. Players drafted in the second round or later are allowed a maximum of four years on their rookie contracts.
Widely regarded as the second-best running back in the draft, behind only Trent Richardson, Martin is expected to upgrade the Buccaneers rushing attack. He will pair with LaGarrette Blount in what looks to be a very potent offense.
