Quarterback Josh Freeman is one of six players to be named a team captain of the 2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The other players to receive that honor: defensive back Ronde Barber, linebacker Adam Hayward, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, wide receiver Vincent Jackson and long snapper Andrew Economos.

In reacting to this news, SB Nation's Bucs Nation noted that all of the team's captains are crucial to the Bucs' success in the 2012 season:
What's significant, though, is that each of these players on offense and defense is a key cog on the new team - someone without whom, that side of the ball could easily collapse. The Bucs need these captains to live up to their billing, or we might see a repeat of last year.
