Tampa Bay holds a 10-0 lead over the Carolina Panthers at the end of the first quarter. The Buccaneers jumped out to a 7-0 lead after an 80-yard drive that resulted in a six-yard touchdown pass by Josh Freeman to Mike Williams. Tampa added a 36-yard field goal later in the quarter to extend the lead to 10-0.
The Buccaneers dominated the time of possession in the first quarter and Freeman came out sharp completing 8-of-9 passes for 89 yards and the game's lone touchdown. Doug Martin has 25 yards rushing on seven carries while Dallas Clark has a 33-yard catch.
Cam Newton is off to a relatively quiet start throwing for 39 yards in the first quarter. Tampa out-gained the Panthers 112-34 in the opening period.
