AHL standings 2012: Tampa Bay affiliate off to hot start

Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate is undefeated early in the AHL season.

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

The Syracuse Crunch, AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, are off to a 4-0-0-1 start through five games and lead the Eastern Conference. The Crunch have nine points, one point ahead of second-place Norfolk, which has played one fewer game. Syracuse's point total is best among all AHL teams.

The Florida Panthers' AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, has not had quite the same early-season success. The Rampage are 2-2-0-0 and fourth place in the South Division.

Syracuse has scored the most goals in the league, as they are averaging just over four goals per game. The have also struggled to defend, as the Crunch have allowed over three goals a contest. San Antonio has a negative goal differential, despite allowing just nine goals in four games. The problem has been the offense, as the Rampage have only managed to net seven goals of their own in that time.

The season is still young, but both affiliates seem to have areas to work on going forward. Full AHL standings can be found at the league's official site.
