Montreal, QC (Sports Network) – Ryan Malone scored the game-winner with 51 seconds remaining in overtime, as the Lighting earned a dramatic 4-3 victory to spoil the Canadiens’ home opener at Bell Centre.
Steven Stamkos scored on the power play with less than two minutes to go in regulation to send the game to OT, while Brett Clark and Martin St. Louis also tallied for Tampa Bay, which was coming off a win over Atlanta.
Mike Smith was in net in the opener and was credited with the win on Wednesday after saving 24-of-27 shots.
Andrei Kostitsyn, Tomas Plekanec and Maxim Lapierre lit the lamp for the Canadiens, who have lost two of three to open the season.
Carey Price was peppered with 48 shots, but allowed all four goals to take the loss.
