Lightning vs. Blue Jackets: Bolts Lead 2-0 After First Period

The Tampa Bay Lightning are off to a quick start in their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena, leading 2-0 after one period of play. .

Blair Jones scored at the 7:36 mark of the opening frame to give the Bolts their first goal and Eric Brewer followed that up with his first goal of the season 18:12 to put his team up by a pair.

Tampa Bay's starting goalie, Mathieu Garon, helped the lead stand up with 11 saves despite his team being outshot 11-5 in the opening frame. Columbus' Steve Mason was the man victimized on both Tampa Bay scores.

The team's combined to go scoreless on three powerplays in the first frame. We'll see if the special teams pick up later on in the hockey game.
