NHL Playoffs 2011: Lightning With Slim Hope For Fourth Seed

After Tuesday night’s loss to the Sabres, the Tampa Bay Lightning now find themselves three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference. Both team only have two games remaining, so while the Lightning still theoretically have a shot at the #4 seed, their window is closing fast.

The Penguins can clinch the #4 seed with one more win or a Lightning loss, which would give them home ice advantage in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The Lightning need to win both of their games to even have a shot, but that could be difficult as they face the Hurricanes (89 pts.) in their final game of the season.

Regardless of what seed they get, reaching the playoffs is still a great accomplishment for the Lightning. This will be their first playoff berth in four seasons, so it’s an exciting time to be a Bolts fan.
