Devils Vs. Lightning: Martin St. Louis Scores Hat Trick In 4-3 Victory

After fighting off a furious attack from the New Jersey Devils in the third, the Tampa Bay Lightning were able to hold on for a 4-3 victory at the Prudential Center Sunday afternoon.

Taking a 2-1 lead into the third, the Devils were able to tie up the game when Petr Sykora scored his 15th goal of the season at the 2:28 mark of the period. The tie would only last for 41 seconds, as Matt Gilroy put in his second goal of the season to give the Bolts the lead again.

St. Louis would complete the hat trick with 9:22 remaining in the game, increasing the lead to 4-2.

The Devils would not go quietly, as Zach Parise scored a power play goal with 2:35 remaining to cut the deficit to 4-3, however they would not be able to complete the comeback.

The Lightning were very efficient and took advantage of the few opportunities from the stingy Devils defense, scoring four goals on just 16 shots.

Teddy Purcell was a big reason for the victory as well, tallying three assits on the afternoon. Mathieu Garon stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced for the Bolts.
