Islanders Vs. Lightning: Steven Stamkos Scores 51st As Lightning Lead 1-0

Steven Stamkos has scored his 51st goal of the NHL season as the Tampa Bay Lightning have taken a 1-0 lead over the New York Islanders after one period of play at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Stamkos put the Lightning ahead at the 15:49 mark of the first period, with assists from Teddy Purcell and Martin St. Louis.

The goal came very much against the run of play, as the Islanders outshot the Lightning 14-9 in the first period, but Dwayne Roloson was equal to the task, stopping all 14 shots that he faced in the first 20 minutes. Islanders netminder Al Montoya, getting the start in place of Evgeni Nabokov, stopped nine of the ten shots the Lightning threw at him in the first.
