Barring quite a miraculous run, Tampa Bay's chances of making the NHL Playoffs are slim, at 7 points behind eighth seeded Washington and 11th overall in the Eastern Conference. While not impossible, it's much more likely the that the Lightning could help the Ottawa Senators make a run at Boston's Northeast Division lead and the overall No. 2 seed.
The Sens trail the Bruins by three points (Boston has played two less games, however), so a win by the Lightning Tuesday could give Ottawa a shot at jumping from the No.7 seed to the No. 2 seed. Steven Stamkos has been ruthless in his scoring of late, hitting his franchise record 53rd goal of the season Monday night against Philadelphia, his third goal in two games and enough for Tampa to win their third straight.
