As all Rays fans know by now, Maddon loves his themes. He believes in off-the-field goofy things to keep the players loose and relaxed over the course of the season, figuring that they need something to keep them from burning out over the course of the year. In the past he's gone with mohawks (forgive me, Rayshawks!) and plaid (the BRaysers from last season were a hit), and this season it appears he's settled on long, crazy hair.
↵Of course, the Rays already have plenty of awesome hair on their ballclub. Bench coach David Martinez has the best beard in the game outside Brian Wilson, Longoria looks like he hasn't cut his mullet since sometime last season, Johnny Damon is sporting a fauxhawk, and Manny Ramirez has his dreads (of course). J.P. Howell and Jeff Niemann also have beards going, and Wade Davis is going to be shaving his head for charity.
↵This was already shaping up to be one of the most entertaining Rays teams to follow, and this development just made it even better. Let's hope Maddon stays true to his word!
