Longoria Likely DL Bound, Could Miss Three Weeks

The Rays are awaiting the results of an MRI before making a final decision, but it sounds as though Maddon expects Longoria to hit the disabled list and miss at least 3 weeks. According to St. Pete Times reporter Marc Topkin:

Not a lot of good news early on today at Tropicana Field, with manager Joe Maddon saying he “would bet” that 3B Evan Longoria (left oblique) is headed for the disabled list, with a minimum stint of three weeks.

Topkin is also reporting that Sean Rodriguez will likely be the starting third baseman in Longoria’s absence, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Maddon ends up giving Elliot Johnson a start or two over there.

If Longoria goes to the disabled list, the Rays will need to decide who to call up from Triple-A to fill his roster spot. Felipe Lopez would make the most sense, as he just missed out on a bench spot with the Rays to begin the season, but he would need to clear waivers to be sent back down to the minors again. Desmond Jennings would be the easiest player to call up and send back down, as he still has some of his options left.
