Sam Fuld To Take Part In Home Run Derby....Kinda

From MLB.com:

The legend of Sam Fuld will be present at this year's All-Star festivities.

The Rays outfielder will join ESPN to provide commentary on Monday during the Home Run Derby at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The word is that Fuld is going to contribute to the broadcast slightly, and then will help "protect" the crew from any flyballs hit their way. Since the ESPN announcers will be broadcasting from left field during the game, they will be right in harms way and could theoretically get nailed with a ball. And hey, what better player to protect them than one of the best defensive left fielders in baseball? Fuld is one of the league-leaders in Web Gems, so it seems only natural that ESPN would nab him to be a part of the festivities.

Even though he has no prior television experience, Fuld is a well educated player -- he went to Stanford, after all -- and seems to have a solid understanding of baseball stats and analysis. I'm personally more excited to see how he looks behind a mic than to actually watch the Derby...
