Rays Lead Yankees 4-2 Through 5 Innings; Red Sox Tied in Baltimore

At the mid-point of game one in a crucial season-ending series, the Rays lead the Yankees 4-2. Yanks starter Hector Noesi was pulled in the bottom of the third after the top of the Rays lineup was able to get to the spot starter on their second time through the lineup.

Reid Brignac and Desmond Jennings were doubled home by BJ Upton, evening the score at 2. Johnny Damon singled later in the inning to score Upton and give the Rays the lead. One inning later, catcher Kelly Shoppach homered off of Raul Valdes to add to the lead.

Robinson Cano has given James Shields trouble all night, with a homer in the first and an RBI single in the 3rd to score the Yankees second run. Shields has thrown 69 pitches through 5 innings.

Meanwhile, the Orioles have evened it up against Josh Beckett and the Red Sox, who are tied at 2-2 in the 6th.
