Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Moore had a rough outing, giving up eight runs in 4.2 innings, as the Rays trail the A's 8-5 after five innings at Tropicana Field.
The Rays jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, as a Jeff Kepinger sac fly and a pair of two-RBI singles Sean Rodriguez and Matt Joyce sprung them ahead.
The A's would answer with five runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a three-run home run by the newly-aquired Brandon Inge. The A's added three more runs in the top of the fifth thanks to a pair of big doubles by Jonny Gomes and Derek Barton.
Further adding to the Rays' troubles was Desmond Jennings leaving the game in the third inning with an apparent knee injury. There has been no report on how severe it was.
A B.J. Upton homer in the bottom of the fifth has brought the score to 8-5.
