In a division in which all five teams are over the .500 mark, getting swept in a three game series is especially costly for an AL East team. After losing three straight games to the Kansas City Royals, the Rays are now in a tie for third in the division after their slump allowed the Red Sox to tie them in the standings.

Now, the Rays will look to bounce back from their struggles against Max Scherzer and the Tigers, who are in the midst of a slump of their own. The Tigers have lost back to back games and in Scherzer's latest start he earned a loss after allowing three earned runs in six innings to the Pirates/

Taking the mound for the Rays will be James Shields who has pitched two straight games without earning a decision. In his last start, Shields allowed two home runs and five earned runs in five innings.

The first pitch at Tropicana Field is scheduled to be thrown at 7:10 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally on MLB Network. For local coverage tune in to Fox Sports Detroit and Sun Sports.
