The Tampa Bay Rays came back on Thursday afternoon to take the finale against the Cleveland Indians and get a series split. David Price was fantastic on the mound, shutting out the Tribe in a 6-0 victory. Price gave up just two hits in seven innings of work, striking out seven and issuing three walks. Price was fantastic, working quickly to get the series split as the Rays head into the weekend.
Luke Scott continued his assault on the Indians, breaking the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with a solo homer to to right field. Scott is hitting .424 in 33 at-bats against the Indians this season, while scuffling at .192 against the rest of the league. Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez got a little wild in the sixth and the Rays pounced. With two outs, Jimenez hit Desmond Jennings on the wrist. Jose Molina then singled up the middle and Sean Rodriguez walked to load the bases. B.J. Upton came through with the big hit to bust things open, lacing one inside the bag at third and clearing the bases for a three-run double that pushed the lead to 4-0.
The Rays will now stay home and host the Seattle Mariners for a weekend set. James Shields will take the mound in Game 1 on Friday night.
