The Birthsong Project

t's going to be a pretty slow week for the State of Florida here at the Birthsong Project HQ in Sunny Saskatchewan. Only two birthdays this week in Florida pro sports. What was the number one song the week your favorite players were born? Oldest first -

Marcel Goc - center -Florida Panthers - 8/24/83

The Police - Every Breath You Take

In hindsight, the biggest ever hit by Sting and the boys (it spent eight weeks at number one) was the definitive stalkers anthem. If you don't know what I'm talking about, listen to some of these lyrics:

Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take

Every move you make
And every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

At times on the ice last season, Goc was oddly prescient as a playmaker. Often matched up against the opposing teams top lines, he somehow equalled a career high with .47 points per game. Unfortunately, it's going to take more than police intervention to guarantee an NHL season this October.

B.J. Upton- center fielder - Tampa Bay Rays - 8/21/84

Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters

If there's somethin' strange in your neighborhood
Who ya gonna call?

Even though the incident wasn't spooky or ghostly, there was still something remarkable about the night two weeks ago when B.J. Upton and his brother (Justin with the Arizona Diamondbacks) each hit their respective 100th career major league home runs on the same night.
