MLB Standings 2012: Rays Pull Within 3 Of Yankees, Build On Wild Card Lead

Check out the American League East and AL Wild Card standings after Wednesday night's action.

Presswire

The combination of a Tampa Bay Rays win and a New York Yankees loss on Wednesday night puts the Rays within three games of first place in the American League East standings. The Rays already held the lead in the AL Wild Card race, and Wednesday's win -- Tampa's sixth in the last seven games -- helped solidify that lead.

The Oakland Athletics currently hold the second AL Wild Card spot, sitting a half-game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles. Beginning Thursday, the Rays will have three opportunities to put some distance between themselves and the A's, as they kick off a three-game set against Oakland at Tropicana Field.
